Sunroom Plans to Create Before Meeting With a Contractor

LivingSpace Sunrooms offers customized sunrooms that fit any type of home. This includes a variety of windows, doors, colors, and sizes. In this post, we outline the steps you can take to best prepare for your sunroom plans to create a room you will love for years to come.  Deciding on a sunroom The decision to buy a sunroom is the beginning of an exciting project that will revitalize your home. In a home that feels too cramped, a sunroom will give additional living space. In a home that feels too familiar, a sunroom will give a new perspective. In a home that feels too dark, a sunroom will give large, spanning windows and unlimited natural lighting.   Any home remodeling project can be stressful, though, for those who don’t know the right steps to take. It can be a daunting task to find the right space for your sunroom, find the right contractor, navigate each customization option, and trust that it will be built effectively. You can approach these sunroom plans as an expert, though, with the right preparation.  Finding the right space Many homeowners put their sunroom onto the back of their home. Some homeowners already have an existing deck space that’s accessible from the backdoor and can easily transition into a sunroom. Others simply want a convenient spot to sit and admire their yardwork and gardening decorations.   There are other advantages to having a backyard sunroom. For one, it provides a great spot to supervise while the kids play outside. You can use it effectively in this spot throughout the seasons to oversee yard work, play lifeguard, referee a pickup football game, or supervise a snowball fight.  There is also, generally, space available for a sunroom off the back of your home. In neighborhoods, houses are spaced strategically to…

How Much Will My Sunroom Addition Cost? Price Guide

How Much Does a Sunroom Cost? We commonly get asked the question, “how much does a sunroom addition cost?” But this is a tough question to answer. Most people want to make their sunrooms custom to match their current home. This includes a distinctive style, size, and color. Prices are dependent on these specifications. The best way to accurately estimate how much your sunroom addition will cost is by scheduling a meeting with one of our Premier Partners. During these meetings, you can talk through your design ideas. Based off the discussion, our Premier Partners will give you a better idea of how much your sunroom will cost. The quick answer, though, is that adding a sunroom addition onto your home will be an investment. Our sunroom cost typically range in price between $20,000 and $70,000. Your placement within this range depends on a variety of factors. If you want a larger sunroom with greater customization capabilities, you’ll be looking at a price towards the upper echelon of the pricing spectrum. In contrast, a smaller, less customized room will drop your sunroom cost closer to the lower side of the spectrum. Since a sunroom can be such a large investment, you’ll want to shop around to make sure you’re getting the room you want. In this post, we’ll help you determine which sunroom best fits your budget and taste. How Much does a Sunroom Addition Cost Compared to Other Home Additions? First, you should determine whether a sunroom is the right option for you. Before making an investment in your home, it’s worth noting how similar home remodeling projects compare. Conservatory Addition or Sunroom: Which is Right For You?

Conservatories and sunrooms are nearly similar, the major difference is that a conservatory addition typically has a glass roof. In this post we will talk a little more about their differences and which style or purpose would suit you best. When to consider a conservatory addition? The bus stops outside around 3:30 PM, and the kids jump off and start walking up the driveway. One of them is talking about the constellations she is studying in her science class. Her teacher showed them pictures of Orion’s Belt, Leo the Lion, Ursa Major, the Great Bear, and Taurus, the Bull. The other kids are ‘ooo-ing’ and ‘aww-ing’ and want to see for themselves. As they walk in, you’re there to greet them. They ask if you can show them the constellations after the sun goes down that night. You don’t know anything about the stars, but there’s enough time to learn between now and then! So you happily comply! The weather report shows clear skies, so tonight should be perfect stargazing weather. The only problem? A high of 36 degrees. This is not perfect *outdoors* stargazing weather. You are welcome to bundle up your kids in their winter wear for an evening astronomy class, but this option seems to be plagued with disaster. Your youngest will inevitably want to go back inside because he is too cold, while your oldest will be distraught because everyone isn’t involved in the family activity. In instances like these, a glass-roofed conservatory would seem like the perfect option. Everybody is able to lay out in their own space with an unobstructed view of the night’s sky. You can locate the North Star and then hand off the explanations to your daughter, who will be eagerly engaged and excited to show off her education. What is a conservatory?…

5 Indoor Plants That Look Great in a Sunroom

The gardening season always seems to come and go very quickly. With fickle weather, it seems like there’s only a few safe months each year for growing plants.  Luckily, though, the LivingSpace sunroom is a great spot for beautiful indoor plants to grow year-round. Plants thrive in our sunrooms! The climate-controlled environment protects plants against cold temperatures, and the abundant natural light offered by the large windows encourages flowering plants to blossom to their fullest.  Finding the right balance of sunlight You’ll want to be careful about where you place your plants in your sunroom. Some indoor plants need an abundance of sunlight, while others scorch and spot in direct sunlight. This means that some plants make perfect sunroom transplants, while others aren't naturally adapted for it. Saying this, you can always find a spot in your sunroom for the flowers you want to grow.  Our favorite indoor plants It’s so refreshing to see a sunroom filled with plant life, and it’s exciting to see how flowers can prosper when exposed to the open lights in a sunroom. Ivy is one of the indoor plants that thrives in our sunrooms. There are different varieties of ivies that generally show where the plant originated from. These include English ivy, Japanese ivy, Persian ivy, and Russian ivy. English ivy is most commonly grown in the home, but you should be easily able to locate other varieties as well. The process for growing ivies doesn’t differ much between types. Sunrooms are the perfect spot for the ivies to grow, since they grow well when exposed to bright light. If the plant isn’t receiving adequate sunlight, it’ll let you know. An ivy’s leaves will visibly droop as they lose some of their springiness. At this point, the plant is more susceptible to corrosion from pests. If this is the case, put the plant closer to the window and watch it redevelop as it comes back…

Sunroom Furniture Tips Your sunroom has the potential to become the most popular room in your home if it’s designed right. And how you decorate your sunroom will influence how you use it. Because of this, what you want to do with your sunroom furniture will be an important question to answer during the planning stages. That way, you can create a room that can accommodate the crowds. At LivingSpace Sunrooms, we want to help you make your dream room by giving you the resources that will allow you to create a timeless extension of your home. Here are a few tips we’ve compiled from our expert design consultants.  Focus on sunlight Interior designers prefer neutral decor and uncluttered design schemes in sunrooms. By doing this, it lets the unique decorations better shine within the room. It also gives you a beautiful area that you are able to relax in. We love the sunlight that floods into our sunrooms each and every day. The people that use our sunrooms often say that year-round access to abundant natural light is the best perk of their sunroom. And, natural light is likely a main reason why you’re adding a sunroom addition onto your house. Because of this, it would be a crime to place large objects in front of the windows to block that light. There are plenty of options when choosing sunroom furniture that prioritizes sunlight and doesn’t distract from the view. We love rooms that avoid bulky or oversized furniture for a number of reasons. Smaller furniture tends to look newer and sleeker compared to oversized furniture, making your sunroom more visually appealing. It also gives sunlight an easier path into your home.   Choose a simple design Moving your furniture away from the sunroom windows will open up your view of the outdoors. High tables and large floor lamps may seem to naturally…

Complete Sunroom Windows Guide by LivingSpace

Sunroom Windows Options Though they fulfill the same purpose, sunroom windows can differ quite a bit in how they look and function. Some manually slide open, others are opened by a crank, and some are simply fixed within the frame. The names may seem confusing, but once you have an understanding of the basic styles, you’ll be well on your way to making the right choice for you and your family. Check out some of the sunroom windows options below to understand what you can do with windows in sunrooms. Picture Window A picture window gives an unobstructed view of the outdoors and brings in the most natural sunlight. They are often placed along the far wall, and provide a stunning view for people as they walk into the sunroom for the first time. Because of this, they are very popular in the rooms we build. The only downside is that they are stationary and cannot be opened and closed. Normally, this is fine, as summers and winters are often extreme in most regions of the country. However, on the perfect fall day, a nice breeze might be exactly what you want.  Sliding Window These sunroom windows are also popular options. They consist of two sashes, and each sash independently slides left or right. This means that you can slide either side completely open, or slide both to the middle with openings on either side. In the middle, there are two locking mechanisms for each sash, which can help childproof your windows and prevent break-ins.  Double Hung Windows Double hung windows are similar to sliding windows in terms of how they operate. On double hung windows, however, you can slide the sashes up or down instead of left or right. They still operate independent of each other and lock in the…

The History of LivingSpace Sunrooms

The vision for LivingSpace Sunrooms took shape in 1998 when our founder, Kraig Mackett, ventured into the unknown by starting a sunroom business. Frustrated by the poor quality and lack of customer care he found working in the sunroom industry, Kraig built a small, experienced team to change the status quo. Along with Mike Francis, our Director of Sales, and Jake Huskins, our VP of Engineering, Kraig patented and refined a new way to build sunrooms. Using far superior materials, a revolutionary framing system, and clever engineering, the early team at LivingSpace created the first sunroom that was a true home addition, designed to integrate seamlessly with our customers' homes and stand up to decades of harsh weather. After twenty years, that team has expanded to hundreds of employees and we are still growing! The following is his perspective on the sunroom industry and his experience in the home improvement industry that led him to working with an incredible team at LivingSpace today. Starting out My first real job out of college was working in the home improvement industry in sales. I ended up working for a company selling windows, siding, and other home improvement items. As I worked there, the company started to grow, and we got in the sunroom business. This would have been around ’92-’93. Our company was pretty innovative. We would look for solutions to try and create more value added to the homeowner because the building products industry really seemed to be fairly stalemated. Everybody had similar products at the time and no one would do anything to make improvements until one person made an improvement, and then everyone would race to catch up. This made it so there wasn’t very much genuine innovation in the industry. We took steps towards innovation by owning our own windows manufacturing business. This gave us…
